Chelsea Townhouse
Private Client
Chelsea, London
Set in the heart of Chelsea, once the epicentre of London’s artistic bohemia, this Victorian townhouse has been reunited from two former flats into a single four-storey home. Inspired by the spirit of the Chelsea Arts Club, the home has been conceived as a confident celebration of colour, craft and personality, equally suited to intimate retreat and lively entertaining.
A palette of sage and forest greens, burnt terracotta and deep rust is layered with pattern, glazed tiles and tapestry-inspired fabrics, while reinstated cornicing, picture rails and bespoke joinery ground the scheme in period authenticity. A bespoke stair runner, inspired by traces of original William Morris wallpaper uncovered during the works, cascades up the staircase and pools across the top landing, while art takes pride of place throughout.
“We wanted the house to have an element of the Arts and Crafts movement to it, and what I think of as ‘old Chelsea’.” Karen Howes, Founder & CEO at Taylor Howes
