A COMPENDIUM OF TRENDS SHAPING GLOBAL INTERIOR DESIGN
LETTER FROM THE CEO & HEAD OF STUDIO
Over the past thirty years, our team has witnessed countless trends rise and fall. While some have become timeless classics, others quickly faded from memory. The interior design landscape is constantly evolving, with new fads emerging weekly. At Taylor Howes Designs, we pride ourselves on crafting truly timeless homes. By blending classic elements with contemporary touches, we create spaces that remain beautiful and relevant for years. We also understand the importance of staying attuned to enduring design movements within our industry. These trends inspire us, and we integrate them into our clients’ projects as appropriate. We are excited to present the seventh edition of our trend report, Kaleidoscope, featuring six standout trends for 2025. Each trend has been carefully selected by our talented design team, who inspire us every day. We hope you enjoy this year’s edition of Kaleidoscope, and we invite you to share your favourite trend for the coming year!
MODERN HEIRLOOMS
Furniture replaces art as a modern collectable in 2025.
In 2025 we will see momentum in art-like furniture pieces grow further. Sculptural, highly detailed furniture is to become regarded as tradeable and as commodity-like as a piece of art, jewellery or a handbag. Furniture will join the ranks of the traditional ‘collectibles’ investments offering. Clients are seeking to invest in exceptional design and unique furniture. At this year’s PAD fair in London, Claude Lalanne’s table, pictured below, was valued at £1.4 million, highlighting the growing market value of such pieces. As works by artists like Lalanne, Eileen Grey and Isamu Noguchi continue to appreciate, collectors increasingly recognise the investment potential of fine furniture and lighting. These pieces are not only beautiful but functional— true ‘jewellery for the home’. Organisations such as The Loewe Foundation seek to recognize uniquely talented artisans whose artistic vision and will to innovate set new standards for the future of craft, museums are also recognising the value of these gallery pieces and are buying them for their collections. Indeed, the piece in the top image by Heechan Kim (represented by Charles Burnand is in the Ulster Museum’s collection as well as the permanent collection of the Loewe Foundation). Recognising the value of commissioning unique pieces for their homes, next year promises to see the growth of clients as patrons; we are excited to introduce our clients to the names we tip as the next makers to invest in, in 2025.
We recently worked on a bespoke commission with Marc Fish, whose extraordinary pieces, such as the table above, transcend the definition of furniture and are instead best described as functional sculpture. Creating modern heirlooms is as much about the journey as it is the finished piece, the advantage of commissioning is that these pieces are not subject to the whims of fashion; they transcend trends.
Our top tips for 2025 are:

EXPRESSIVE MARBLES
In 2025 expressive marbles will captivate us with their vivid patterns and rich textures.
In interiors and architecture, there has always been a strong connection to marble; it provides a connection to nature, symbolising stability, and immortality. Natural stone endures and remains beautiful as it ages, developing a patina through use that resonates through the ages and adds to its character. Homeowners and designers are increasingly drawn to natural stones that have distinctive patterns and colours, which make a statement in any space. The inherent variability in each slab of stone creates a one-of-a-kind look that cannot be replicated. This uniqueness not only adds character to the design but also a sense of luxury and individuality that manufactured materials cannot match.
Moving away from subtle designs and embracing the beauty of prominent, eye-catching veining found in materials like marble and quartzite, the shift in the last few years, for vivid colour, patterns and organic shape goes from strength to strength and its use continues to explode beyond the conventional.
Furniture makers and artists are increasingly incorporating marble into their crafts, creating unique and desirable décors. In 2025, marble will take centre stage with modern, Michelangelo-inspired statement pieces that blur the lines between furniture and sculpture. The trend toward matte finishes, particularly ‘leathered’ textures, will grow, offering a softer, more tactile feel compared to traditional polished marble. Leathering adds warmth and approachability to the material, creating a sculpted elegance that feels natural. As we move into the new year, marble will continue to redefine its role, extending beyond kitchens and bathrooms to become a focal point in modern furniture design, embodying grandeur and uniqueness.
HOME BARS
The return of the cocktail hour.
Increasingly at the top of our clients’ wish list, we see the popularity of the home bar soaring into 2025. Imbued with a sense of glamour, the ritual of the cocktail hour provides comfort and escapism from the demands of the outside world. With beautiful exteriors that hint at the beguiling contents, there is no more desirable furniture piece; a functional jewel for the home.
We delight in adding surprising bursts of colour and exquisite materiality to the bar interior; elevating the ritual of preparing a savoured tipple. Feature stones and bespoke finishes add glamour and elevate the home bar into a focal point and conversation piece. Whether a bespoke commission or a limited-edition collector’s item, home bars are becoming a real investment piece, designed to stand out!
BOLD VENEERS
In 2025 we will see a pull towards new textures in timbers.
London plane gives the most intricate patterning and is a tree that thrives absorbing pollution in our cities! Readily available and highly sustainable, it feels thoroughly modern when paired with soft upholstery, as seen on this outlandish creation by Charlotte Kingsnorth, at Gallery Fumi.
This new timber aesthetic is personified by this Philippe Hurel table we placed in our family home in The Bryanston. The mix of bold, sand blasted matt larch, contrasted with the luxurious bronze-finished legs, typifies this new approach to timber veneers, which is all about contrast and juxtaposition.
There are exciting new makers, such as Olivia Faire, who are breathing new life into timber veneer marquetry. Olivia brings a more feminine, softer hand, to veneering and, although she is using traditional timbers, such as eucalyptus and birch, her intricate patterns of feathers, leaves and blossom bring a feminine touch. Where once marquetry was strictly symmetrical, new designs are softer and more playful. Her pieces will undoubtedly become future heirlooms. Highly figured veneers, bold grains and strong colours, contrasted with soft shapes, give a new freshness and modernity for 2025.
IMMERSIVE INTERIORS
2025 will be the dawn of a new maximalism; seeking comfort in immersive interiors, drenched in pattern and colour, we seek to be transported away from the outside world and into fantastical enveloping atmospheres. Layered pattern using the same motifs on walls, curtains and furniture, often using traditional tapestries or their more modern incarnations, builds drama and provides a playful twist, subverting the expected.
Contrasting contemporary furniture shapes and finishes keep this playful, unexpected and far from traditional. Wrapping pattern and colour onto the ceiling adds drama and distortion to spaces. Using high gloss lacquer further distorts the interior and adds a playful, colour-drenched effect.
We used a gentler approach here, on our fabulous Notting Hill family home, where the soothing cloud-like pattern envelopes the room, creating a dream-like mood in the master bedroom suite.
Tented ceilings and whimsical designs introduce a playful charm to interiors, enveloping inhabitants in an escapist atmosphere. Nature-inspired motifs further enhance this enchanting environment, fostering a sense of well-being. The Taylor Howes project featured above showcases wallpapered ceilings that elevate a powder room into a stunning retreat. These vibrant, inviting spaces transform ordinary rooms into extraordinary experiences, highlighting the joy and creativity that thoughtful design can inspire.
COLOUR CRAZE: UPLIFTING YELLOW
Yellows will bring the hit of dopamine that we will all be craving in 2025!
With global uncertainty showing no sign of abating, we find ourselves increasingly drawn to comforting and uplifting colours, and the warmth of sunshine tones provides just that. Warm sunset shades evoke feelings of inspiration and happiness, creating inviting spaces that nurture positivity. The brighter shades of yellow are particularly powerful, capable of uplifting and energising both interiors and their inhabitants. Beyond its cheerful disposition, yellow is also highly versatile; it complements a variety of interior schemes, whether used as a striking accent colour to add vibrancy or as a statement hue that commands attention.
When incorporated thoughtfully, yellow can illuminate a room, enhance natural light, and create a sense of openness. It pairs beautifully with neutrals, grounding elements, and even bolder hues, making it an ideal choice for any design aesthetic. As we continue to seek solace in our surroundings, the cheerful embrace of yellow will undoubtedly play a key role in shaping inspiring and joyful interiors.
